Tired, Burned Out, and Breaking Out? Meet the Founder Turning Skincare Into Self-Care
What began as one woman’s battle with eczema and burnout has become She Biology, a global Black-owned skincare brand blending science, spirituality, and self-care in one sleek ritual.
In 2016, Chinenyem Nwadiugwu was tired of eczema flares, burnout, and feeling disconnected from her body. Instead of waiting for someone to fix it, she did what every great founder does: she built the solution herself.
And just like that, She Biology was born.
“I asked myself, who is going to solve my problem? And I realized, the answer was me.”
Today, She Biology isn’t just science-meets-self-care; it’s a philosophy, a ritual and a love letter to women who want products that work and feel like a hug.
We sat down with Chinenyem to talk about the aha moment that changed everything, her must-have products, and what it really takes to build a beauty brand with purpose (and peace).
Where Beauty Meets Biology
“Shelby,” the name she imagined giving her daughter, inspired She Biology, a symbolic blend of womanhood, wellness, and the natural harmony between the two.
Every product is designed to honour her biology, the woman applying it. “Each ingredient was chosen to work in harmony with a woman’s natural biology, while also giving her an experience of beauty, mindfulness, and ritual,” she says.
The ‘Aha’ Moment That Changed Everything
If there’s a single product that captures the brand’s soul, it’s the Superfood Rosewater Essence, born from years of experimentation and a deep obsession with hydration.
“I’d been using rosewater since my early 20s,” she says. “People always complimented my glow. I wanted to create something even more powerful.”
Powered by tremella mushroom, hyaluronic acid, aloe vera, and willow bark, it’s the kind of product that makes your skin feel alive.
Lightweight, soothing, and addictive, the perfect bridge between cleansing and confidence.
The Heartbeat of the Brand
Unlike most beauty founders, she never questioned her decision to start.
And that clarity shines through in the brand’s growth. She Biology’s mission to turn skincare routines into self-care rituals that heal the skin, calm the mind, and love the earth anchors everything.
It’s why the brand is pursuing B-Corp certification, hosting community wellness events, and nurturing a loyal tribe of “She Biologists” worldwide.
You can copy the packaging, but not the purpose.
“I never once thought I was crazy, I’ve always loved watching ideas transform into reality.”
The Fan-Favourite That Almost Didn’t Make It
Every founder has that one product story that could’ve gone either way. For She Biology, it was the Heal Brown Sugar Scrub, a honey-sweet mix of muscovado sugar, CBD oil, and vitamin E that customers can’t stop asking for.
“It became a cult favourite,” she says. “But we had to pause it for scalability reasons.”
Don’t worry, it’s coming back in 2026, upgraded for global shipping.
Self-Care Rituals as A Reset
Running a beauty brand sounds glamorous until burnout hits. “When I feel overwhelmed, I stop everything,” she shares. “I travel, fast, pray, it’s how I reset.”
Her personal skincare lineup reads like a dream shelf:
“I hoard the serum and face wash. They save my skin every time.”
Beyond Skin Deep
When asked what myth she wants to debunk, her answer is instant:
“That you need to jump on every trend. You don’t. Focus on your why and your community.”
Her biggest pinch-me moment? “Hearing people shout the brand name in the streets. That’s when I knew She Biology had taken on a life of its own.”
Looking ahead, the brand’s next chapter includes:
Launching with two new major retailers in Q1 of 2026
Opening its first brick-and-mortar store
Completing B-Corp certification
Hosting the Skincare Soirée Experience
The Future Is Female, Black & Glowing
Black women have always led innovation in beauty; it’s just that now, the world is finally watching.
“She Biology fits into that legacy,” she says. “We’re not just healing skin. We’re healing the mind, the earth, and how we see ourselves.”
Confidence. Joy. Community.
That’s the energy She Biology walks into the room with, and now you can too.
