The Journey
A Shower Idea Turned Reality
16th June 2022- Shower idea
Born June 16th 2022, in a moment that felt divine. Not in a boardroom or a brainstorm—but in the middle of a shower, the vision dropped into my spirit, clear as day—fully formed, fully named: The Black Gallery. A living, breathing space that celebrated us—African & Black-owned brands, Black stories, Black style, Black excellence.
I didn’t know all the hows yet, but I knew this idea had a purpose, so I followed it.
Checked the name.
Taken.
So I renamed it My Black Gallery—and somehow, that felt even more powerful. Like it belonged to all of us.
But then I did what a lot of us do with ideas that feel too big: I put it down. Closed the tab. Went back to life.
The idea sat in my notes for months. Years, even (2 years to be precise).
But MBG didn’t leave me. It haunted me—in the best way
I’d find myself circling back—watching other people bring their ideas to life, wondering why I hadn’t done the same. It nagged, it tugged. It whispered every time I saw a brand go unnoticed, struggling to get the recognition it deserved. And I couldn’t let it go.
I kept thinking: What if we had something better? Something curated, Something that felt like us.
7 days to Launch Day
Until one day, I couldn’t ignore it anymore. I had to make it real.
So I started showing up.
Reduced my hours.
Dedicated Mondays.
Tried to build a site (that flopped).
Made calls. Got the right people. Watched one yes turn into another.
And little by little, here we are, live!
MBG is a home for you. For us. For every brand, every creator who is building something powerful, meaningful, and unapologetically Black.

Here, we celebrate visibility
Not just for the sake of recognition, but because you deserve to be seen for everything you are. You deserve to take up space.
MBG is for the everyday people who want to shop intentionally, uplift their community, and discover brands that reflect who they are. And we’re here to make sure you do.
MBG is curated, intentional, and alive. You’ll find stories here. People. Power. Purpose.
Because when we see each other, when we support each other, when we stand together—we build legacies.
And this? This is only the beginning.
So if something in you lit up while reading this—welcome.
You're not just a visitor. You're part of the story now.
Welcome to My Black Gallery.
We’re live. We’re loud. And we’re just getting started.
With Love,
Edy
