7 PM GMT: The Inbox Surprise That Had Me Daydreaming
There’s no better feeling than a Sunday when the MBG biweekly newsletter drops into my inbox.
I love these newsletters because it’s like my lil' check-in with the world of African and Black-owned brands. It’s like clockwork now — 7 pm GMT, new collections, secret deals, exclusive drops and always new reasons to fall even deeper in love with African and Black-owned brands.
This Sunday’s edition had me extra excited, though: a highlight of the latest SS25 drops. As soon as I spotted Christie Brown’s new "GO" collection, my heart skipped a beat.
Now, let’s get one thing straight: Christie Brown has been on my wishlist for the longest time, especially as I’ve been more intentional about finding and supporting African/Black-owned brands that truly feel like me.
Christie Brown SS25 GO! Collection
As a warm autumn palette girl, it’s safe to say that anything orange instantly calls my name. So, imagine my excitement when the very first piece I saw was the Logan Dress.
First thought? “Oh, I want it all, the Logan Dress, the iconic Rita jersey…”
My cart was filling up faster than I could even breathe.
But then... reality taps me on the shoulder.
The price tags? Whew.
The cost of living has me in a chokehold, pay day money is already signed, sealed, and delivered, and money is 1000% an issue right now.
So, I abandon my cart, tell myself to be responsible... but those outfits? They start living rent-free in my mind.
Like, I can't even help it. I start daydreaming — no, manifesting — where I’d wear each piece and how I’d feel.
Let me take you there:
First up: The Logan Dress
A sleeveless shift midi with adjustable sides and hand-embroidered inserts — and in orange, no less.
Orange is my kryptonite. Anything orange instantly catches my eye.
This isn’t a loud, in-your-face orange either — it’s that warm, almost burning but still soft type of orange. Springtime wrapped in sunlight.
The rounded neckline is perfect for my silhouette, and the loose, chic fit just screams grown woman energy.
I see myself wearing it to one of those bougie art gallery openings where everyone’s asking, "Who are you wearing?" And I’ll just smile mysteriously because… MBG girls know the code.
A belt here, some statement earrings there — this dress was MADE for the spotlight.
Next: The Tasia Skirt & Zoey Jacket
Another orange number? Say less.
The skirt’s midi length? Chef’s kiss. Versatile enough for casual styling but also polished enough for boss moves.
Together, they give "serious business, but make it fashion." Separately, they're like those two friends who shine individually but are unstoppable as a duo.
Casual coffee runs? Tasia Skirt with a tucked-in tee.
Power meeting? Full set, boss energy activated.
The versatility is everything.
The Tasia skirt
She drew me in immediately — first for the colour (obviously) and second for that quintessential Christie Brown cutout rope detail. You just know it’s CB when you see it.
Zoey Jacket
Tasia comes with Zoey, a boxy structured dream jacket that you can dress up, down, sideways, however you like.
Then: The Harlow Top & Olive Skirt
Showstopper alert.
Honestly, this set feels like a red-carpet moment waiting to happen. I can see myself wearing it to a wedding, a fancy rooftop event, or even just strutting down the street for no reason other than why not?
This is not an outfit you wear when you’re feeling shy.
Someone's definitely asking, "Sorry, where did you get that outfit? You look amazing."
And me? Just smiling, knowing I’m wearing African luxury.
The Olive midi full skirt is everything I love in a statement piece. That curved silhouette? Baby, it hugs the body just right at the waist and then flares out in dramatic glory. Plus: it has pockets. (Automatic 10/10.)
It’s structured, full-bodied, and midi length — a walking piece of art.
The Harlow Top, a structured shirt with cutout shoulders, is just as show-stopping: a dramatic, cut-out shoulder structured blouse that practically demands flash photography.
The Wildcard:Mina Top & Cara Skirt
This set steps a little outside my strict Warm Autumn palette, but it’s too good to ignore.
Crop tops are one of my favourite things to wear, and the relaxed, modern tailoring on the midi skirt meant I couldn’t pass them up.
The Cara skirt has a sleek, easy vibe, while the Mina top brings the cropped, structured energy.
Together, they hit that perfect balance between casual cool and dressed-up sleek.
Finally: The Rita Jersey Top
A classic.
I already know I’ll get it oversized for a relaxed, street-style vibe.
It’s breezy enough for spring and summer, and I can already picture myself pairing it with jeans or tailored shorts and my favourite Loci trainers for a casual city stroll, hanging out with friends, or a quick coffee date with my partner.
My Christie Brown Wishlist
And here’s the thing:
As much as I added all these beauties to my cart immediately… reality reality’d.
The cost of living is clutching my wallet tight. But these pieces have been living rent-free in my mind ever since.
I daydream about them constantly: twirling in Logan, power-walking in Olive, serving bossy elegance in Zoey.
The Joys of Being an MBG Girl
So now?
I’m saving a little every day — literally a penny a day if I have to — in my humble little Monzo savings pot with one goal in mind:
That Logan Dress will be mine.
Because one thing about being an MBG Tribe member?
When these collections go on sale, MBG always plugs us first.
And when that day comes... just know, I’ll be ready.
