Behind The Brand
In 2016, Freda Obeng-Ampofo returned home to Ghana with one question in mind: how could traditional ingredients like shea butter and black soap be elevated to global luxury standards without losing their cultural soul?
That question became Kaeme, a modern skincare brand named after the Twi word for “remember me.” Each jar, bottle, and candle carries a piece of Ghana’s story — a sensory bridge between tradition and modern self-care.
Kaeme’s range includes whipped shea butters, liquid black soaps, soy candles, and room sprays, all made in Accra with ethically sourced ingredients from women’s cooperatives in Northern Ghana. Every product is cruelty-free, paraben-free, and designed to let natural Ghanaian botanicals shine. The brand has sleek, minimal packaging and vibrant scent blends—like Eternal, Calm, and Rise.
Since its launch, Kaeme has grown from a local boutique favourite to an internationally stocked brand, celebrated by Forbes Africa, CNN’s African Voices, and BBC Africa. Freda’s vision of turning raw, indigenous ingredients into world-class skincare has made Kaeme a case study in sustainable African entrepreneurship. In 2025, they won Manufacturing Company of the Year
More than skincare, Kaeme prioritises its community. In collaboration with Bohten, an eyewear brand in Ghana, on World Sight Outreach Day, they offered free eye screening, prescription glasses and skin wellness sessions to the Juaso community.
