Behind The Brand

In 2004, two friends from Amsterdam’s hip-hop scene, Edson Sabajo and Guillaume “Gee” Schmidt, launched Patta “out of love and necessity,” not just business. The name “Patta” comes from Surinamese slang for “shoe,” a nod to their roots and early mission: sourcing hard-to-find sneakers abroad and bringing them back to their local community.

Over time, Patta evolved from a sneaker boutique to a full-fledged global streetwear brand deeply rooted in the community. A community-rooted streetwear brand that bridges music, sneaker culture, and social impact; deeply involved in cultural initiatives.

They run not just a fashion line, but creative initiatives — including the Patta Running Team, Patta Soundsystem, and the Patta Foundation, which supports youth cultural education. Their Amsterdam store (on the Zeedijk) became a meeting place for creatives, music, and style.

Known for cross-continental influence, community building, and amplifying streetwear as cultural currency, Patta is celebrated for its high-profile collaborations with heavyweights such as NikeASICSReebok, Jordan, and Converse. But it’s not just about hype — their work is grounded in authenticity, community engagement, and a cross-cultural vision.
