Vernon François (Founder)

Behind The Brand

Before he became one of the world’s most celebrated hairstylists, Vernon François was a boy growing up in a Rastafarian household in Huddersfield, England, teaching himself to braid on a mop at eight years old. By fourteen, he was styling clients on London’s Oxford Street; by sixteen, he’d already won his first major hair award. Those early years built not only skill but his purpose to prove that hair, in all its textures, was a language worth listening to.

Today, Vernon’s name sits among beauty’s modern legends. Now based in Los Angeles, he’s styled the likes of Lupita Nyong’o, Solange Knowles, Serena Williams, Willow Smith, and Angela Bassett, crafting looks that have graced the covers of Vogue, Elle, Harper’s Bazaar, and Vanity Fair. The Hollywood Reporter has named him one of Hollywood’s most influential hairstylists four years running, with his creations often ranking among the industry’s top beauty moments of the year.

But Vernon’s legacy isn’t just about red carpets; it’s about rewriting the narrative around textured hair. His VERNON FRANÇOIS® Haircare line is vegan, Leaping Bunny–certified cruelty-free, and built around inclusive design. The products use a unique colour-coding and icon system, inspired by Vernon’s own experience with dyslexia, making it easy for anyone to identify what works for their texture.

That innovation has earned him recognition as Yahoo! Lifestyle’s “Most Inclusive Hair Brand” and a place in Ulta Beauty’s Muse 100, celebrating changemakers in beauty. Today, as Global Brand Ambassador for OLAPLEX and L’Oréal PPD, Global Editorial Ambassador for TOC, and a core member of the Ulta Beauty Pro Team, he continues to lead with education, artistry, and empathy.
