Simba and Pam Samasuwo Nyawiri - Founders of Vanhu Vamwe handcrafted luxury handbag made in Africa and South America

Simba and Pam Samasuwo Nyawiri (Founder)

Behind The Brand

When husband-and-wife duo Simba Nyawiri and Pam Samasuwo-Nyawiri founded Vanhu Vamwe, it was about more than handbags. It was about weaving together craft, culture and community. The name itself means “One People” in Shona, a hint at how the brand sees design as a bridge, not a divide.

Their journey started in Zimbabwe and Ecuador, working with artisans who had stories of their own, women weavers, wire artists, and macramé makers. Vanhu Vamwe is about slow, intentional creation that puts people first.

Materials matter: paracord made from 100% recycled PET bottles, vegetable-tanned leather, sea-grass straw hand-harvested in Ecuador. Every bag holds not just design but a purpose to empower marginalised communities, preserve craft traditions, and redefine what luxury means.

They believe a bag should do more than carry items; it should carry meaning. Each piece is given time for a design concept, artisan collaboration, and thoughtful craft process.

Wearing Vanhu Vamwe is choosing a design that holds memory, culture, and responsibility.
